Six members of a family, including two children, tragically
lost their lives in a freak accident on Saturday morning when a container truck
toppled and fell on their SUV near Nelamangala on National Highway 4. The
accident caused a 3-km-long traffic jam and left the SUV completely
destroyed.
According to initial investigations, the accident occurred
around 11 am while the family was traveling from Bengaluru to Tumakuru for a
weekend outing. The container truck and the SUV were moving parallelly when the
truck collided with a milk dairy truck, causing both vehicles to topple. Rescue
teams worked tirelessly to retrieve the bodies, but all passengers in the SUV
died on the spot.
The victims, residents of Bengaluru, were identified as Chandran
Agpa Gol, 42, a senior executive in a software company, his wife Dharabai,
their children Gyan, 16, Diksha, 10, and Arya, 6, and a close relative, Vijayalakshmi,
35. The family had embarked on the trip in a recently purchased car, which
tragically became the site of this devastating incident.
Police attributed the accident to the negligence and speeding
of the truck drivers, who are now under investigation. Legal action has been
initiated against them.
This heart-wrenching tragedy has left a deep void not only in the family but also in Bengaluru's software community. Locals have called for stricter enforcement of laws against reckless driving and improved safety measures on national highways to prevent such incidents in the future.
